Graduate Student
I'm Janeen Leachman, a master's student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Gonzaga University. I believe every person has inherent worth, the ability to grow, and a deep need for relationships, and I strive to create a space where all clients feel seen, accepted, and empowered. I use a client-centered approach with an emphasis on emotionally focused therapy, working with clients of all ages and populations. I view my role as similar to a hiking buddy—someone who accompanies you on your journey, exploring familiar trails and venturing into deeper emotional terrain together.

Janeen's THERAPIST'S Statement
Janeen Leachman: Graduate Student, Clinical Mental Health Counseling
My name is Janeen Leachman, and as a master’s student at Gonzaga University in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, my professional identity is grounded in the belief that every person has inherent worth, the ability to grow, and a deep need for relationships. I value empathy, authenticity, and cultural humility, and strive to create a space where ALL clients feel seen, accepted, and empowered to explore their emotions and choices. With a client-centered approach, I treat clients with an emphasis on emotionally focused therapy. I enjoy working with all ages and populations.
I view my role as a counselor as similar to a hiking buddy—someone who accompanies clients on their journey rather than leading them or dictating the way. Sometimes we walk on familiar trails, but we may venture off the beaten path to explore deeper or more challenging emotional terrain. At times the trail may be steep, but reaching those “viewpoints” of insight and healing requires willingness to navigate difficult stretches together. I bring a lifetime of experience that increases my understanding and empathy.
As a Spokane native, I spend my free time with my family and dog, hiking the many splendid areas around Spokane, or reading by the fire.
